Reminder: Friday March 2 is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:30.
NC Math 1: Students will continue to work on Geometry this week. We will be reviewing the main concepts: distance formula, midpoint formula, characteristics of quadrilaterals and how to prove figures are what they are by using slopes and distances. There will be a unit test on Geometry on Thursday. Math 8: Students will continue to work on slopes of lines and also equations of lines in the form y=mx+b. Y intercept will be introduced and how that affects the graph of a line. Students will continue to work on how to interpret graphs of lines and the slope and y intercepts.

NC Math 1: This week students will begin on Module 6 (Algebra and Geometry connections). In class students will work on characteristics of quadrilaterals, finding distances on the coordinate plane, midpoints of lines, and how a vertical shift affects the graph of a function.
There will be a quiz on Friday on these topics. Math 8: Students will continue to work on finding and comparing slopes of lines. Students will learn how to apply the slope formula to find the slope between two points on a graph. There will be a quiz on Friday on slopes. All Classes Progress reports will go home on Tuesday.
NC Math 1: Students will continue working on solving systems of equations using elimination. We will also discuss the Pythagorean Theorem and its applications. Unit Test on Module 5 will be on Friday. Math 8: There will be a unit test on Functions on Tuesday. The next unit will then be how to graph and write equations of lines. We will introduce Y=mx+b and how it relates to functions. Report Cards went home on Friday. Please return envelopes signed to your homeroom teacher.
This Friday, Feb 9th is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:30. NC Math 1: Students will have a quiz on Module 5 on the topic of inequalities on Tuesday. Students should be able to graph them, write them and find solutions of single inequalities and systems. The remainder of the week will be used to solve systems of equations through the method of elimination. Math 8: Students will continue working on functions and finding rates of change and initial values. Students will also learn how to determine if a set of ordered pairs are linear or non linear. There will be no assessment this week. Unit 9 test on functions is scheduled for Tuesday Feb. 13th. Report Cards will go home on Friday February 2.
NC MATH 1: This week students will begin working on Module 5, solving systems of Inequalities. Students will work on how to graph 1 and 2 inequalities and how to find the solutions. Math 8: Students will begin work on Unit 9 Functions. In class they will identify what a function is, how to tell if a relation is a function, and also how to create a graph of a function from a story. There will be a quiz on these topics on Friday. This week will be the final week of the 2nd Quarter.
In NC Math 1 students will be completing Module 4. The assessments for this unit will be given either this week or next(dependent on weather). Part 1 will consist of the multiple choice/fill-in questions, and part 2 will be the performance assessment. The topic is solving equations and inequalities. Math 8: Students are working on finding volume of Cylinders, cones and spheres. Students must know the formulas for the assessments. Once the formulas are introduced the class will work on application problems on Volume. The test for this unit will be given this week or next depending on weather issues. NC Math 1: Due to snow days last week the Module 4 Quiz will be on Wednesday. We will continue to work on equations and inequalities this week.
Math 8: Due to snow days last week the test on Pythagorean Theorem will be on Wednesday. This week we will also review Area of circles and volume of prisms and introduce how to find the volume of Cylinders and cones. Welcome back to everyone!
This week: NC Math 1: Students will work on Modules 4.3 and 4.4. The topics will be solving equations and inequalities. There will be a quiz on these topics on Friday. Math 8: Students will continue to work on Pythagorean Theorem problems, including how to use it to find distances between two points on the coordinate plane. We will also continue to work on application word problems. There will be a unit test (#7) on Friday. The 2nd quarter continues until January 19th. All classes will be given a progress report on Tuesday covering the first 6 weeks of Quarter 2.
NC Math 1: Students will begin working on Unit 4, Comparing equations and inequalities. This week we will get through the first 2 modules of the unit. The performance assessment for Unit 3 will be given on Tuesday. Math 8: Students will continue to work on Pythagorean theorem questions and how to use it to solve word problems. There will be a quiz on Wednesday. Thursday is an early release day. Dismissal is at 12:30. No school Friday. Have a happy and restful holiday break. NC Math 1: This week we will finish up Module 3. The Multiple choice/fill-in test will be Thursday. Performance assessment will be next week.
We will also begin Module 4 by the end of this week. Math 8: Test on Tuesday on Angles/triangles/similar figures. After the test we will introduce Unit 7 ( Pythagorean theorem. |
